Team USA Wrestler Spencer Lee Advances to Olympic Gold Medal Match

Former NCAA Champion at Iowa Spencer Lee led Team USA Wrestling in an individual match victory over Uzbekistan in the Paris Olympics.

Spencer Lee is moving on.

The Murrysville, Pennsylvania native competed in the Paris Olympics on Thursday, winning his match over a wrestler from Uzbekistan 14-4 and advancing to the gold-medal match on Friday. He is wrestling in the 57-kilogram weight class in his first Olympics.

 

Lee will wrestle against Rei Higuchi in Friday’s gold medal competition. The three-time NCAA champion and two-time Dan Hodge Trophy award winner graduated high-school from Franklin Regional in Western Pennsylvania before his illustrious college career at Iowa. Lee was an undefeated 26-0 in his collegiate wrestling career in home matches in Iowa City, and also went 57-6 in his collegiate career against ranked opponents.

In high school, Lee was a four-time state qualifier and a three-time Pennsylvania state champion wrestler. He was the No. 1 ranked wrestler in the country all four years of his collegiate career.

Lee was one of four Western Pennsylvania natives to represent Team USA in the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Michael Grady – Rowing – Central Catholic

Team USA won the gold medal in the men’s rowing four final event for the first time since 1960 behind Michael Grady and the rest of the team just over one week ago. Grady and his team, comprised of Nick Mead, Justin Best, and Liam Corrigan took home the gold, beating New Zealand, Great Britain, and Australia in the final.

I recorded an hour newscast from wtae and kdka tonight from 5 – 6 pm so I could see the local coverage to inform our community of this great feat and to be aware of the next match so our community could watch on Friday. Two hours of news coverage and it was never mentioned. This derelict of duty floors me. Sickening. How many Westmoreland County residents get a shot at a gold medal?
