With the college football season rapidly approaching, we now know what teams make up the initial AP Top 25 Poll.
Georgia, Ohio State, Oregon and Texas are the top four teams, respectively. Where do the Atlantic Coast Conference programs stack up on the list?
The lone ACC school in the top 10 is Florida State at No. 10. After an undefeated regular season in 2023 and an ACC title win over Louisville, 16-6, Florida State missed out on the College Football Playoff, becoming to first team to do so since the College Football Playoff’s inception.
Florida State defeated the Panthers last season 24-7 in early November. However, the Panthers will not have to worry about the Seminoles this year.
The next highest ACC program is Clemson, checking in at No. 14.
Pitt will host the Tigers — a team coming off of a 9-4 record and even 4-4 in conference play — at Acrisure Stadium on Saturday, Nov. 16 with a time still to be determined.
Fortunately for the Panthers, they miss out on the other Top 25 ACC programs this season in Miami and North Carolina State State.
Miami is ranked 19th with NC State rounding out the teams at No. 24.
Several Pitt opponents received votes in Louisville (111) and SMU (33). By the time the Panthers play either of those teams, there’s a chance they could crack the Top 25. What’s more is both of those matchups are on the road.
Also receiving votes are the West Virginia Mountaineers with 17. The two teams will meet in the Backyard Brawl at Acrisure Stadium on Sept. 14 at 3:30 p.m.
