Meleek Thomas may be the most popular basketball player to ever come out of Pittsburgh.
The Steel City native left Lincoln Park to join Overtime Elite in Atlanta this summer, but his recruitment still includes local program Pitt. He has visited campus countless times unofficially and also took an official visit this past season. Now, he is in the midst of a crowded recruitment that is down to seven schools.
Just days ago, a report surfaced from “HS Top Recruits” on Twitter regarding Thomas’ recruitment. The account, which claims that it is 23 for 25 on recruiting predictions, claimed that Thomas’ recruitment “appears to be fading away from UConn,” per multiple sources.
Thomas released his top-seven list just last month. He is considering UConn, Arkansas, Pitt, Kansas, Alabama, Kansas State, and Auburn. Thomas cut schools such as Duke, Kentucky, and Michigan from his initial list.
The highly-touted guard won back-to-back WPIAL and PIAA titles this past high-school season as a sophomore and junior at Lincoln Park, averaging 22.7 points and 10.2 rebounds per game. He has been a significant Pitt target since early in his high school career and has been to numerous games over the past few seasons alongside former teammate and current Pitt guard Brandin Cummings.
