On Wednesday, 247Sports released its first installment of ranking the Class of 2027. It showcases their top-100 prospects in the cycle, and two WPIAL products were included in the list.
Seton LaSalle athlete Khalil Taylor checks in at No. 51 and sports a 90 overall four-star rating. He is also marked as the second-best player in Pennsylvania and the ninth prospect at his position.
Not too far down from Taylor sits McKeesport running back Kemon Spell at No. 59. The Penn State recruit is one of just five players in the top-100 to commit to a program. The third-ranked running back holds a 90 overall four-star rating and is the third-best player in Pa.
Spell — a 5-foot-10, 195-pound prospect — put together an outstanding freshman season with McKeesport posting 37 carries for 517 yards (14.1 yards per carry) for an 11-2 Tigers squad that played eventual PIAA Class-4A champs Aliquippa close in the playoffs.
He held offers from Michigan, Michigan State, Florida State, Pitt, West Virginia and other Power Four schools, but decided it was the right time to commit early and get the ball rolling for the Nittany Lions.
As for Taylor, the 5-foot-11, 180-pound prospect has shown that he is a top player in the WPIAL after earning First-Team All-Conference accolades for his freshman campaign.
Taylor was one of the standouts at this summer’s 2Tenths Top 150 Camp, receiving the underclassmen MVP at wide receiver.
He holds offers from Pitt, Penn State, West Virginia, Maryland, Nebraska, Syracuse, Rutgers and more.
While Taylor and Spell represent the WPIAL, there is a name that is interestingly omitted and that is Aliquippa’s Larry Moon III. Moon holds just about every offer in the book from Ohio State and Alabama to USC and Oregon.
This list is an early look at the top prospects in the country, but there will be plenty of updates over the next few years.
