Pitt football in the Backyard Brawl

The Backyard Brawl between Pitt and West Virginia is one of the biggest games in college football, and when the matchup comes to Pittsburgh, it’s led to some of the biggest crowds in stadium history.

When Pitt and WVU renewed the Brawl in 2022, it led to the largest crowd in Acrisure Stadium history — for a sporting event.

The Brawl is returning to Acrisure Stadium this year, with Pitt and WVU scheduled to kick off at 3:30 p.m. on Sept. 14, and there’s a chance a new sporting crowd record could be hit. But those going to the game will need to make parking plans beforehand — even those who have a parking spot may be impacted.

According to Pitt Athletics, parking on the North Shore will be unavailable unless you have a pre-paid parking pass. And those who have already been assigned parking spots may have been moved because of the dueling Pitt and Pittsburgh Pirates games.

According to Pitt, these parking spots have been moved:

  • Gold 2 — to — Green 31
  • W General Robinson Garage — to — Gold 1 Garage
  • Red 5A — to — Green 32
  • Red 7B — to — Green 32
  • Red 7C — to — Green 32
  • Red 7D — to — Green 33
  • Blue 7F — to — Cardello Lot
  • Blue 7H — to — Cardello Lot
  • Blue 7J — to — Cardello Lot
  • North Shore Blue 10 Garage — to — NOVA Place Garage

More information regarding the Backyard Brawl will be available closer to kickoff, which includes the ESPN broadcast crew.

West Virginia head coach Neal Brown is coming off the best season in his tenure with the Mountaineers and returns what should be a strong offense led by Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year dark horse Garrett Greene and a powerful rushing attack. WVU added from the transfer portal to bolster its defensive unit and should pick up from where it left off last season. The Mountaineers will be a tough matchup.

Pitt is 62-41-3 against West Virginia in a series that extends back to the 19th century. WVU is coming off a 17-6 win against the Panthers last season in Morgantown, a game in which the Panthers failed to continue a modest one-game win streak since the renewal of the Brawl.

The early game line for Pitt is the Backyard Brawl has set the Mountaineers as the favorite. West Virginia is favored by 4.5 points — with odds for either spread set at -110.

Everyone can relax. There will be 200 people at PNC park unless the rookie is pitching.
