Even with the Pitt football program hitting the field during week one of fall camp, the Panthers were still putting in effort on the recruiting front with a number of visitors.
David Moore Jr – a 5-foot-11, 170-pound athlete from West Orange High School in New Jersey – was one of those important recruits taking in the Pitt experience on Wednesday.

“When they got me on the phone to offer me, they told me they wanted me to come out and I told them, definitely I’d come out. I liked the atmosphere. I like that they share facilities with the Pittsburgh Steelers and share the same stadium,” Moore told Pittsburgh Sports Now.
Eager the check out the program, Moore was greeted right away from the staff after a six-hour trip and got the full tour of the UPMC Art Rooney Sports Complex.
“When I first walked up there, they were waiting at the door, introduced me and gave me my tag. I walked in, they gave me a tour of the facility, the locker room and the weight room,” Moore said.
Moore, who is being recruited by Pitt as a safety, had the opportunity to experience a team meeting and position meeting with assistant head coach and secondary coach Cory Sanders leading the way.
“We went into the team room and they were breaking down the defensive schemes, formations and how they run everything. Then, we went to the position groups and coach was saying how on certain plays when you blitz and different formations. Coach [Sanders] was enthusiastic, and he brings the energy to practice. During the meeting, he was very talkative and even the players interact with him good, and you can tell they have a great relationship with them.”
The Panthers recently extended an offer to the three-star prospect in May. He holds offers from West Virginia, Duke, Toledo and Marshall, while receiving additional interest from Tennessee, North Carolina, Stanford, James Madison and Georgia State.
Moore has already visited West Virginia for a camp and Duke for an unofficial visit, but with the latest visit to Pitt, he already has them high in his recruitment.
“Pitt is definitely in the top three right now,” Moore said.
With an opportunity to play at Pitt, Moore knows it could set him up for the future, whether that’s a shot at the NFL or a great education.
“I would be in a great position to see wherever I’d want to go with academics and everything,” he said.
Moore is a do-it-all athlete at West Orange as he slots in at quarterback and wide receiver while starring in the secondary. During his sophomore campaign, he registered 22 tackles and two interceptions with one of them coming as a pick-six.
He will be a Pitt target to follow over the next year as he provides a good blend of speed and strength on the field.
“I’m a very versatile athlete. Anybody that steps in front of me, it’s going to be a long day. When I’m on defense, I’m going to be the quarterback’s worst nightmare,” Moore said.
