Meleek Thomas is building a significant brand before he steps on a college basketball court.
The five-star prospect, who played three years for Lincoln Park in the WPIAL, is now playing for Overtime Elite in Atlanta, Georgia before he goes off to college. Along the journey, he has signed several deals, representing large brands and appearing in huge events. Recently, he signed with Jay Z’s agency Roc Nation Sports, and now, he has appeared in a Gatorade promotional video that represents SLAM magazine as well.
Five-star guard Meleek Thomas took an official visit to UConn and head coach Dan Hurley over the weekend.
“The thing that separates me from other athletes my age is just my mindset, how hard I work,” Thomas said in the video. “I’m a player with imagination so I’m just thinking about getting better, thinking what I’m doing to get better, what I could to do get stronger when I’m lifting.”
“He is super proud of Pittsburgh,” Thomas’ mother said. “He takes it very seriously and he reps very hard.”
The highly-touted guard won back-to-back WPIAL and PIAA titles this past high-school season as a sophomore and junior at Lincoln Park, averaging 22.7 points and 10.2 rebounds per game. He has been a significant Pitt target since early in his high school career and has been to numerous games over the past few seasons alongside former teammate and current Pitt guard Brandin Cummings.
“The culture of basketball in Pittsburgh I would say, it’s not really known for basketball. To bring a basketball culture, I want other kids and people to do what I do and just creating a basketball culture inside of my city it’s just, it’s a blessing.”
