As Alexis Bordas wound down her official visit with the Duquesne University Women’s Basketball Team, she found herself at TopGolf and while golfing was not so successful, she was ready to make an important decision.

Bordas was about to become a Duquesne Duke and immediately coach Dan Burt opened his arms in an embrace, excited to land a commitment for his 2025-26 recruiting class.

“It was very fun once I told the coaches and they all hugged me,” she recalled. “Some of the girls were there and they asked me when I was going to decide where I was going and I was getting ready to tell them, kind of nudging them to say it. They were about to leave, and Meg McConnell was the one who said, ‘oh my gosh, we’ve got to stay then!’ They wanted to watch, and they all hugged me and were cheering. That was fun to have everyone there and tell them.”

That was how the scene played out on Borda’s commitment video which had just over five-and-a-half minutes of run time and included photos and videos from her journey to that point.

With many college letterheads expressing interest, it was the Duquesne D which won out and also what she wore for a Zoom interview with PSN.

“The visit, everything about it was amazing,” reflected Bordas. “I had been an unofficial visit in April 2023, so I had already seen some of the campus but to be able to meet all of the girls, watch practice and be able to spend two full days with all of the coaches and players was awesome and let me get to know everyone better.”

Bordas’s accomplishments as she enters her final season at Wheeling Park High School including twice being the West Virginia Gatorade Player of the Year, Mary Ostrowski Award winner and MaxPreps State Player of the Year.

She is around 40 points away from breaking the Wheeling Park all-time scoring record and is also approaching 2,000 career points, while working for her team to repeat as state champions this season.

Bordas spoke to PSN’s Zachary Weiss Sunday, a day after officially announcing her commitment and talked more about becoming a Duquesne Duke, what her strengths are as a player and how a tweet from her seventh-grade year may have set the stage for Saturday’s announcement.
