Pitt athlete commit Synkwan Smith

The high school season is kicking off, and a Pitt commit in the class of 2025 is off to a very strong start.

Synkwan Smith — a 5-foot-9, 165-pound athlete from Roswell in Roswell, Ga. — put together a very well-rounded start to his senior season. He carried the ball 15 times for 87 yards (5.8 yards per carry) and a touchdown, adding one reception for 17 yards and one kick return for 44 yards, against Peachtree Ridge.

Smith committed to Pitt as a running back during the final official visit window, giving the Panthers an athlete with a ton of potential on the offensive side of the ball.

Smith committed to Pitt on June 23 over offers from Arkansas State, UConn, Georgia State, Georgia Tech, Kansas, Kansas State, Kent State, Marshall, UMass, Miami (Oh.), Pitt, Toledo. Western Kentucky and Wofford.

Smith is a dominant all-around athlete, serving as a running back, wide receiver and kick returner at Roswell, and while he’s likely a running back at the next level, he could easily serve as a slot wide receiver. It depends on where the coaching staff most values his diverse skill set.

Smith is the exact type of athlete that offensive coordinator Kade Bell values offensively, offering an intriguing blend of pass catching and rushing ability.

Smith served a few different roles at Roswell last season, racking up 24 carries for 285 yards (11.9 yards per carry) and four touchdowns and 32 receptions for 420 yards (13.1 yards per reception) and eight touchdowns. And he returned 10 kickoffs for 444 yards and a touchdown and 10 punts for 357 yards and four touchdowns.

247Sports rates Smith as the 588th-ranked recruit in the class (34th-ranked athlete and 65th-ranked recruit from Georgia). Rivals rates him as the 14th-ranked running back and 58th-ranked recruit from Georgia — holding a 5.7 Rivals Rating.

Smith is coming off a junior season in which he dominated at both running back and wide receiver, but if Week 1 is any indication for Smith, he’s in line for a more run-heavy campaign.

He’s a threat any time he has the ball in his hands, possessing top-end speed with and without the football in his hands.

Smith is one of the offensive recruits in the class of 2025, alongside three-star recruits Tony Kinsler and Ja’Kyrian Turner, but Smith is the type of recruit who could play a number of spots upon reaching the next level.
