Amdy Ndiaye is one of the newest players to join the Pitt basketball program.
A member of Pitt’s three-man freshmen class (that also includes Amsal Delalic and Brandin Cummings), Ndiaye was a three-star prospect in high school, playing for Putnam Science Academy in Connecticut. The Dakar, Senegal native comes from the same hometown as Papa Amadou Kante, who is now a redshirt freshman for the Panthers after missing year one due to a knee injury.
He was ranked as the No. 228 prospect in the class of 2024 by 247 Sports.
“Amdy is a versatile inside-out player whose recruitment really took off over the past year,” head coach Jeff Capel said upon Ndiaye’s signing. “He fits our system extremely well with his ability to guard multiple positions on the floor as well as be an efficient offensive weapon out of the pick and roll or pick and pop. He plays with great energy and is another guy who always wants to be in the gym.”
Earlier this week, Pitt’s social media team posted an interview with Ndiaye, introducing him to the Panthers’ fanbase.
He spoke about
“He have a big role in my career,” Ndiaye said. “He was just telling me the basics of what basketball could do for me and all of that, and that playing basketball in the U.S. is different, it’s hard, because I had opportunities to come here before but I didn’t take it because I was feeling like I was not ready to come here. So, he was just helping me, telling me what to do, how to act on the court. Those little stuff impacted me on the basketball court a lot.”
Ndiaye spoke more about how he started playing basketball, his toughness, and more. Check out the full interview below.
