Mason Heintschel set the bar high following a standout junior season at Clay High, but he’s hit the ground running in his senior season.
Heintschel — a 6-foot-2, 200-pound three-star quarterback from Clay in Oregon, Ohio — led Clay to a 38-21 win in the season opener against Sandusky High, earning Pancake Player of the Game from local media outlet BCSN Erie.

Heintschel showcased his playmaking ability, extending plays with his legs — and taking off downfield when the opportunity arose. He also showed off the arm, throwing four touchdowns in the season-opening win.
He finished the night with 293 yards and four touchdowns on 22-of-35 pass attempts.
Heintstchel is off to a great start in his senior season. And once he wraps it up, he’ll be headed to Pittsburgh.
“University of Pittsburgh,” Heintschel said when asked where he’s going after Oregon-Clay. “I’m very excited about that.”
It was secondary coach Archie Collins who began the relationship, and first extended an offer earlier this year, but it was the relationship with offensive coordinator Kade Bell that made the difference.
“It’s been awesome,” Heintschel said when he committed. “We’ve been able to build a really strong relationship, we call each other all the time and it’s just been one of those things where it’s right. I’ve known since we’ve been able to build this relationship that it’s the right move for me. And the fact that we’ve been able to grow so close together in this short amount of time has definitely played a big role in this decision.”
Bell runs an up-tempo offense that relies upon the quarterback making quick decisions. It’s designed to be innovative and explosive, but it also relies upon the quarterback to make good decisions — either with his arm or his legs. Heintschel is the type of quarterback who plays a backyard style of ball, making plays on the move with his arm and legs.
Heintschel carried Clay High as a junior, racking up over 3,000 yards of total offense and 33 touchdowns despite a lackluster offensive line in front of him, and it’s his versatile skillset that attracted the Pitt coaching staff. He’s a tailor-made fit.
247Sports rates Mason Heintschel as the 42nd-ranked quarterback and 31st-ranked recruit from Ohio while On3 rates him as the 65th-ranked quarterback and 45th-ranked recruit from Ohio. Rivals has given him a 5.6 Rivals Rating.
Pitt has excellent potential at Q.B. for years to come. People are under estimating Nate, once again. The primary reason for the QB competition hype is that Pitt is concerned they will lose Eli in the portal if they don’t give him some love. The fact is that Eli has great potential, but has zero playing experience at the college level. He can learn and prepare to become an excellent starter next season. If Nate is injured, ( God forbid), Eli will have to learn on the fly. I believe he can win, but like all inexperienced QBs, he will… Read more »
Lol
HAHAHAHAHA!
Go with Eli
