PITTSBURGH — Pitt is just about 15 minutes from kick off against Kent State, and the 2024-25 season is about to be underway.

But the first taste of football this season will have to wait for a couple of Pitt Panthers. Rodney Hammond Jr., who was ruled ineligible for the season Friday, is obviously out. But there are a handful of players who will miss the season opener.

Juelz Goff is inactive, as he’s wearing a cast on his arm. Jiavani Cooley and Zion Fowler-El were also not dressed during warmups.

Francis Brewu, who was listed as a co-starter at defensive tackle in the Week 1 depth chart, wasn’t dressed for pregame warmups. Nigel Maynard, with his arm in a sling, is also out.

Sean FitzSimmons was not on the field for pregame warmups either. He’s been banged up recently, and it appears likely that he will not play against Kent State.
