Pitt BB Recruiting

Pitt’s Capel, Brown to Visit Top Guard Target Derek Dixon This Week

Derek Dixon told Adam Zagoria and Sam Lance of ZagsBlog, "Sept. 27 is the date I was thinking," regarding a commitment timeline.

This week, Pitt’s basketball staff will be on the move, looking to further its relationship with one of the top prospects on its 2025 recruiting board.

The Panthers’ staff will be represented at Derek Dixon’s school this week, according to HS Top Recruits on Twitter. Dixon then elaborated on that report, and told Pittsburgh Sports Now that Jeff Capel and Milan Brown plan to visit him.

The class-of-2025 prospect out of Gonzaga in Washington D.C. received an offer from the Panthers years ago. He has since visited campus three times — twice unofficially and once officially, and still communicates with the staff frequently. This summer, playing for Team Takeover, he led his team deep into the Nike EYBL Peach Jam playoffs, in front of Jeff Capel, Milan Brown, and hundreds of other coaches in attendance.

The 6-foot-5 guard is fielding a loaded recruitment that is now down to just six schools: North Carolina, Arizona, Pitt, Syracuse, Virginia, and Vanderbilt.

Earlier this summer, on an episode of The Pittsburgh Basketball Show, Dixon joined the show to talk about his recruitment, where Pitt stands, his relationships with Brown and Capel, and much more. Dixon gives a recruitment timeline in the interview, and also talks about two more upcoming visits to programs that are not in the ACC.
