Duquesne Men’s Basketball Staff on the Road This Week

Published

Like many other coaching staffs around the country, the Duquesne men’s basketball staff is on the move this week.

The NCAA’s recruiting period officially began on Wednesday, and it didn’t take long for a report of a Duquesne coach out watching a specific high-school team.

New Albany HS (OH)’s Chief of Staff Matt Weikart posted online that Dru Joyce III’s staff was represented in the New Albany Gym on Wednesday.

New Albany is home to Marco Mattucci, a 6-foot-4 guard/forward prospect in the class of 2026 that has been on the Duquesne basketball recruiting board for some time now after the Dukes began to show interest.

Duquesne's 2024 March Madness Tournament coverage is sponsored by Leon's Billiards & More, Moon Golf Club and Archie's on Carson! Their contributions have allowed us to cover the Dukes run in Omaha, Nebraska. We appreciate their support!

The Dukes return Kareem Rozier, JakeDiMichele, and Derek Dixon from last year’s core. First-year head coach Dru Joyce III brought in a solid transfer class, including Maximus Edwards (George Washington transfer), Alex Williams (Furman transfer), Tre Dinkins (Canisius transfer), Cam Crawford (Marshall transfer), Eli Wilborn (Saint Francis transfer) and Jahsean Corbett (Chicago State transfer). In addition, JUCO transfer Brandon Hall joined the Dukes.

Earlier this summer, national analyst Jon Rothstein listed Duquesne as the No. 9 team in his Atlantic Ten Power Rankings. He listed Duquesne’s key losses as Dae Dae Grant, Jimmy Clark III, Tre Williams, Hassan Drame, Fousseyni Drame, and Dusan Mahorcic. The only incoming transfer to be left off of Rothstein’s “key newcomers” list was Corbett, who averaged 15 points and seven rebounds per game last year. The Chicago State transfer posted a 21-point, 11-rebound performance against Duquesne last year.

Duquesne is looking to make it back to the NCAA Tournament this year in year one under Joyce’s leadership. The Atlantic 10 champions, coached by now-retired Keith Dambrot, were inducted into the Duquesne athletics hall of fame shortly after their impressive run.
