With the NCAA Recruiting Period opening on Wednesday, Pitt, along with many other coaching staffs around the country, wasted no time in hitting the road.

A representative from the Panthers’ staff was in attendance at Western Reserve Academy in Ohio on Wednesday, according to Tom Keller, to watch five-star prospect Anthony Thompson.

“Thompson’s a smooth operating southpaw who scores in an array of ways,” Keller said in a tweet.

Thompson is ranked as the No. 22 player in the class of 2026 by 247 Sports’ Composite Rankings, and is the No. 2 player in the state of Ohio. He is ranked as high as No. 11 in the nation by 247 Sports’ rankings. The 6-foot-7 wing holds offers from programs all over the country. He holds offers from the following schools, per his Twitter page: Kent State, Ohio, Ohio State, Illinois, Cincinnati, Indiana, Texas, Xavier, West Virginia, Purdue, Stanford, Penn State, Wake Forest, Marquette, Missouri, Iowa, Dayton, Notre Dame, Auburn, Alabama, Louisville, Michigan State, Michigan, Clemson, and San Francisco.

In addition to Thompson, Western Reserve Academy is home to 2025 prospect Nikola Bundalo. While it is unclear whether or not Pitt was in for Bundalo as well, he is one of seven prospects in the class of 2025 that has included the Panthers in his top-school list this summer.

Pitt offered Bundalo on July 9, 2023. Shortly after, Bundalo took an unofficial visit to Pitt on Aug. 26, 2023.
