Derek Dixon will take an official visit to North Carolina this weekend — a trip that has been on his radar for a while now.
The Pitt staff was in Washington D.C. watching Dixon’s practice on Thursday, as reported by PSN earlier in the week, and confirmed by Dixon’s high-school coach Steve Turner on Thursday.

Dixon has already taken his official visit to Pitt. He will also visit Arizona before wrapping up his recruitment and committing. He recently told Adam Zagoria that he is thinking of committing on Sept. 27.
The class-of-2025 prospect out of Gonzaga in Washington D.C. received an offer from the Panthers years ago. He has since visited campus three times — twice unofficially and once officially, and still communicates with the staff frequently. This summer, playing for Team Takeover, he led his team deep into the Nike EYBL Peach Jam playoffs, in front of Jeff Capel, Milan Brown, and hundreds of other coaches in attendance. Now, this week, Capel and Brown visited him at Gonzaga.
The 6-foot-5 guard is fielding a loaded recruitment that is now down to just six schools: North Carolina, Arizona, Pitt, Syracuse, Virginia, and Vanderbilt.
Earlier this summer, on an episode of The Pittsburgh Basketball Show, Dixon joined the show to talk about his recruitment, where Pitt stands, his relationships with Brown and Capel, and much more. Dixon gives a recruitment timeline in the interview, and also talks about two more upcoming visits to programs that are not in the ACC.
