It seemed so eerily similar to last year as Cincinnati climbed to a 27-6 lead over Pitt in Saturday’s River City Rivalry matchup.
However, Pitt rallied to score 22 unanswered points to stun the Bearcats at Nippert Stadium Saturday afternoon, 28-27.
Redshirt freshman quarterback Eli Holstein came alive in the second half, completing 13-of-18 passes for 211 yards and three touchdowns. Holstein completed touchdown passes of 11, 38 and 56, respectively with Konata Mumpfield scoring twice and Desmond Reid finding the end zone on a 56-yard catch and run to bring the Panthers within striking distance.
Ben Sauls sealed the comeback with a 35-yard field goal with 17 seconds left.
Good thing. I am not in charge would have fired nardozzi.at half and benched holsteind
Sticking with Holstein is what’s best for the future of the program. Kudos to the coaching staff for sticking with him. As bad as he was for 42 minutes, he was equally outstanding for the last 18. It was his second collegiate game. Give him a break.
They won in spite of Narduzzi and his terrible decision to go for 2 when down by 14. Common sense says you don’t go for 2 in that situation.
What a gutsy win today on the road against a rival and power 5 team! Reid looks like a stud and well suited for this new offense. Speaking of new offense we bought the extra series we needed thru fast tempo. Last year we lost these types of games. Kudos to team being resilient and getting the W. Big Win Here! well done. Anyone know if Fitzsimmons got any snaps?
Reid is an easy MVP pick for his performance in this game.
