On Saturday, Pitt’s football team took down Cincinnati with a ferocious comeback effort.
Ben Sauls nailed the go-ahead field goal and the Pitt defense stopped Cincinnati in the final seconds to clinch the win. Quarterback Eli Holstein threw for 211 yards and three touchdowns in the second half, Desmond Reid was an all-around monster in dragging Pitt back from the brink, and Konata Mumpfield hauled in two touchdown passes of his own. Pitt did just enough to secure a huge, come-from-behind win. The 28-27 win was Pitt’s largest comeback victory since 1971.
Shortly after the game, there was a massive reaction online from Pitt fans, ecstatic about the fight that the team showed in the gritty comeback effort. One of those fans was a man who preaches that same fighting spirit to his own team: the Pitt basketball team.
After Jeff Capel left Twitter for over one full year, he returned after Saturday’s game to weigh in on the big win for Pat Narduzzi’s program.
“BIG TIME road win for @Pitt_FB!!!,” Capel said on Twitter. “Our guys didn’t bink! Congrats to the fellas and coaching staff! @CoachDuzzPittFB has these guys mentally and physically tough!!! #H2P.”
Pitt associate head coach Milan Brown also hit Twitter to share his thoughts on the football game.
