Weeks ago, we highlighted former Pitt star Blake Hinson’s high-school football highlights. Now, as football season is officially underway, let’s take a look at a current Panther’s.
On Sunday, Pitt’s Zack Austin posted the link to his high-school highlight tape on HUDL. Austin was a wide receiver, and showcased his incredible catching ability as well as his blocking skills. Check out the video below.
Austin posted the link to his HUDL on the same day as Pitt released its latest social media content, a video that includes each player and Jeff Capel answering the question “If you were in the NFL, what position would you play?”
Austin is a 6-foot-7 wing who is heading into his second season with the Pitt program after transferring in from Big South program High Point. Austin, a Winston-Salem, North Carolina native, played for Winston-Salem Prep before taking a post-grad year with Moravian Prep.
In his first season with the Panthers, he started 31 of 33 games, averaging 22.6 minutes per game and scoring 6.5 points per contest. Austin shot 42% from the field and 30% from three-point range as a junior for the Panthers. He also grabbed 137 rebounds and blocked 44 shots.
He is a key returning piece for Pitt, who brought in freshmen Brandin Cummings, Amsal Delalic, and Amdy Ndiaye prior to this season. In addition, the Panthers added transfers Damian Dunn and Cam Corhen out of the transfer portal.
Before Hinson was a star on the court, he shined on the football field in Florida. Standing at 6-foot-5 in eighth grade, Hinson, now with the Los Angeles Lakers, was dubbed a “Middle School Phenom” and was already receiving interest from Power Five football programs.
