Pitt pulled off its largest comeback since the 1971 season in a 28-27 win against Cincinnati over the weekend, and it took a complete team effort. As such, the ACC Team of the Week is filled with Panthers.
Eli Holstein is once again the ACC Rookie of the Week while Desmond Reid is the Running Back of the Week, Konata Mumpfield is the Wide Receiver of the Week and Ben Sauls is the Specialist of the Week.
Holstein led the fourth quarter charge for the Panthers, completing 11-of-12 pass attempts for 189 yards and two touchdowns. He finished the day with 302 yards and three touchdowns (and an interception) on 20-of-35 passing.
Reid was an all-purpose weapon yet again for the Panthers, racking up 148 yards (7.8 yards per carry) on the ground and 106 yards (17.7 yards per catch) and a touchdown on the ground. Through two weeks, Reid is the leading rusher in the conference.
Mumpfield set a career-high with 123 yards and two touchdowns on five catches (24.6 yards per reception).
Sauls saved the day for Pitt, nailing all three of his field goal attempts and his lone point-after attempt. He nailed a 47-yard field goal in the first quarter, a 53-yard field goal with one second left in the first half and the game-winning 35-yard field goal with 17 seconds left in the fourth quarter.
The win moved Pitt to 2-0 for the first time since 2021, and it’s a massive confidence booster heading into the Backyard Brawl against West Virginia this weekend at Acrisure Stadium.
Holstein has earned an individual conference honor both weeks this season, and if Pitt wants to be 3-0 heading into the Youngstown State clash in two weekends, he may have to do it again.
Cal landed two players on the Week 3 ACC Team of the Week, the only other school with multiple representatives on the team.
