This week has a chance to be a big one in the Pitt basketball world.
Pitt is currently in the top-three for 2025 recruit Omari Witherspoon, who is heading into his senior season of high-school hoops this fall. Witherspoon announced his top three of Pitt, Vanderbilt, and Maryland recently, and shortly after, DuShawn London of 247 Sports announced that Witherspoon will be revealing his commitment live on 247 Sports on Sept. 11.
Witherspoon will announce his decision live on 247 Sports’ YouTube channel at 5 p.m. est. Check out London’s tweet at the link below.
Witherspoon’s recruitment included ten schools just weeks ago, and he had plenty of visits planned for this fall. However, after a few official visits, including a trip to Pitt, he quickly narrowed that list down to just three, cutting Virginia Tech, Butler, and others from his recruitment. Now that he is down to three, several reporters and scouts have predicted where Witherspoon will end up.
Predictions Roll in For Omari Witherspoon’s Commitment: Will Pitt Get Him?
247 Sports has two predictions logged in his account. On August 29, Jeff Ermann, the publisher of 247’s Maryland Terrapins site InsideMDSports, predicted that Witherspoon would select Maryland with a confidence level of 8 out of 10. All time, Ermann is 312 for 468 on his recruiting predictions (66.7%). Then, on Thursday night, DMV basketball scout Colby Giacubeno logged a prediction for Witherspoon to land at Pitt with a confidence level of 6 out of 10. Giacubeno is 123 for 131 all time on predictions, a 93.9% mark.
A Rivals.com publisher has also predicted that Witherspoon will commit to Pitt on his profile.
On last Friday morning, On3’s Jamie Shaw also logged a prediction for Witherspoon to land at Pitt with a confidence rating of 60 (out of 100).
Witherspoon is one of seven prospects that currently has Pitt in their top-school lists. The three-star prospect (247 Sports) is the lowest-rated of the bunch according to 247 Sports. The other prospects with Pitt in their top-school lists are listed here: Meleek Thomas, Isaiah Denis, Nikola Bundalo, Amari Evans, Davion Hannah, and Derek Dixon.
