To break down the skill sets and recruitments of both Witherspoon and Dixon, I brought in the DMV basketball recruiting expert Colby Giacubeno, who does fantastic work for MADE Hoops and 247 Sports. Giacubeno placed a crystal ball for Pitt to land Witherspoon recently, and also interviewed Dixon after his recent North Carolina official visit.
Witherspoon is a guard out of St. John’s College Prep in Washington D.C., the same high school that produced Ishmael Leggett. Witherspoon first dropped a top ten list weeks ago. He then took a few more visits, including Maryland, Pitt, and West Virginia, among other trips. After wrapping up his most recent visit, which was with the Panthers last Sunday and Monday, Witherspoon decided to cut his list again, this time down to three schools.
Now, Witherspoon is deciding between Pitt, Maryland, and Vanderbilt.
Dixon has visited Pitt’s campus three times — twice unofficially and once officially, and still communicates with the staff frequently. This summer, playing for Team Takeover, he led his team deep into the Nike EYBL Peach Jam playoffs, in front of Jeff Capel, Milan Brown, and hundreds of other coaches in attendance. Now, this week, Capel and Brown visited him at Gonzaga.
The 6-foot-5 guard is fielding a loaded recruitment that is now down to just six schools: North Carolina, Arizona, Pitt, Syracuse, Virginia, and Vanderbilt.
