PITTSBURGH — Pitt defensive coordinator Randy Bates met with the media Tuesday on the South side to recap the Cincinnati game and discuss the upcoming matchup that looms with West Virginia.
Bates talked about Pitt’s adjustments on defense against Cincinnati after struggling throughout a majority of the first three quarters. He pointed to the team’s maturity despite his unit being young and inexperienced.
The linebacker corps was a talking point for Bates as he discussed the importance of Brandon George and Kyle Louis, who have both moved into starting roles this season and have found themselves on the field for a majority of the first two contests.
As for the cornerbacks, Bates discussed how Ryland Gandy and Rashad Battle learned from their early mistakes in the Cincinnati to help lead Pitt’s comeback on defense.
Bates switched gears to field questions about West Virginia and the Backyard Brawl, touching on the importance and how the defense will handle the atmosphere.
Garrett Greene will be a point of emphasis for the Panthers throughout the week of practice as the Panthers gameplan for the West Virginia quarterback.
