Additional Parking for Backyard Brawl Opens on North Shore

Additional parking on the North Shore on the day of the Backyard Brawl has been released. If you’re still looking for parking, don’t wait.

When Pitt and WVU renewed the Brawl in 2022, it led to the largest crowd in Acrisure Stadium history — for a sporting event.

The Brawl is returning to Acrisure Stadium this year, with Pitt and WVU scheduled to kick off at 3:30 p.m. on Sept. 14, and there’s a chance a new sporting crowd record could be hit. But those going to the game will need to make parking plans beforehand — even those who have a parking spot may be impacted.

Parking on the North Shore had previously been sold out, but additional spots have opened up via ParkWhiz. If you’re looking to park on the North Shore, the parking pass must still be purchased ahead of time.

According to Pitt, as previously reported, these parking spots have been moved for Pitt fans:

  • Gold 2 — to — Green 31
  • W General Robinson Garage — to — Gold 1 Garage
  • Red 5A — to — Green 32
  • Red 7B — to — Green 32
  • Red 7C — to — Green 32
  • Red 7D — to — Green 33
  • Blue 7F — to — Cardello Lot
  • Blue 7H — to — Cardello Lot
  • Blue 7J — to — Cardello Lot
  • North Shore Blue 10 Garage — to — NOVA Place Garage

It’s going to be a very hectic day on the North Shore with the Backyard Brawl bringing in thousands and thousands and thousands, along with a Pittsburgh Pirates game earlier in the day, and parking will be impossible for those who did not plan ahead.

The Brawl, when it’s on the schedule, is one of the most eagerly anticipated games on the Pitt schedule — especially when it’s in Pittsburgh. And with the Panthers coming off a historic comeback victory, Panther Nation will be out in full force this weekend.

Pitt is 2-0, coming off a come-from-behind win against Cincinnati this weekend, and is looking to improve to 3-0 for the first time since 2020.

West Virginia is 1-1, rebounding from a season-opening loss against Penn State with a 49-14 beatdown against Albany. WVU quarterback Garrett Greene and the Mountaineers’ offense are looking to continue their ascent.

Pitt leads the all-time series with West Virginia 62-41-3. It’s a series that initially kicked off in the 1800s, an 8-0 WVU in 1895, but the two sides played every season from 1943-2011 — and just about every season since 1900 before that. It’s grown into perhaps the greatest rivalry in college football in the years since.

The series stopped for 10 seasons due to both teams leaving the Big East, with Pitt going to the ACC and West Virginia to the Big 12, following the 2011 season.

But it resumed in the 2022 season. Pitt knocked off WVU, 38-31, to open the season at Acrisure Stadium, and WVU returned the favor with a 17-6 win at Milan Puskar Stadium last season. After last season’s embarrassing showing, with three interceptions from then-quarterback Phil Jurkovec, the Panthers have a lot to prove this time around.

The current series will expire in 2025, but another four-game series is set for 2029-32. So, the Backyard Brawl will be played a handful of times in the coming seasons.

Is anyone still going to Pirates games these days? I don’t live in Pittsburgh anymore, but I can’t imagine there are more than a few thousand people showing up to games this late in the year when the team’s out of it, school is back in session, football season started, etc.

10k went the other night to watch Skenes pitch. So that should tell you all you need to know..I’d actually be pissed if they moved me out of a lot I paid for because the Pirates and MLB just refuse to schedule them on the road when Pitt’s biggest rivals are in town(PennSt a few years back).. Then again it doesnt really matter what we fans think. We keep on paying and showing up…

Skenes is worth going to see. He is the best pitcher in the game. The pirates have not had a talent like that since Garit Cole and his stuff is better than Cole’s.
