PITTSBURGH — With 4:55 to go in the 107th edition of the Backyard Brawl, it looked like Pitt was dead to rights as it trailed by 10 points.
Pitt cut into the lead in just two minutes as quarterback Eli Holstein hit Daejon Reynolds for a 40-yard touchdown reception.
After forcing West Virginia to go three-and-out, including a key 11-yard sack by Jimmy Scott on Garrett Greene, Pitt controlled its own destiny.
In roughly a minute-and-a-half, Pitt was in the end zone to take the lead, 38-34, with Derrick Davis Jr. diving for the one-yard game-winning score.
It’s the second fourth-quarter comeback in as many weeks for the Panthers, but this one was that much sweeter coming in the Backyard Brawl.
Eh, Jebediah will get on his cousin wife in a couple hours and forget all of this.
The vultures are probably already circling overhead waiting for the end of the season to try to steal Kade Bell away from Pitt after his first season here. That’s one of the many things that sucks about modern college football. Hopefully Bell isn’t the kind to leave after one season of being offensive coordinator.
These days you have a successful young coach on your staff and everyone tries to immediately pluck him away from your program. Hopefully Bell isn’t that kind of guy.
