PITTSBURGH — Cruce Brookins emerged as a name to watch during the offseason in the Pitt football secondary, especially as a takeaway threat.
In the 107th edition of the Backyard Brawl, the redshirt freshman and Steel Valley product stepped up with his first-career interception.
As Pitt pressured West Virginia quarterback Garrett Greene with an all-out blitz, Greene sent a ball that was tipped and secured by a rolling Brookins at the Pitt 28-yard line.
Brookins was pointed at by the coaching staff and teammates during spring and fall camp as a breakout candidate. Takeaway stickers lined his helmet throughout August on the South Side and he finally translated that onto the field against West Virginia.
Narduzzi goes for every 4th and short no matter what. Absolutely horrible decision right there before the half.
Outside of George the LBs are too small they don’t win enough at the point of attack. Louis should be a safety he’s a good player but he’s getting pushed around. Lovelace is entirely to small he’s not able to push running backs back at the impact the backs always fall forward. That’s what is hurting this defense. Gandy and the safety’s been good and the d line has been good enough but unless we can get a few stops we’re in for a last drive kinda of game.
Add the fact the entire offensive line is horrendous simply horrible. They haven’t blocked a soul all game. Give the skilled guys a chance atleast the o line has ruined drive after drive.
