NC State will have a new starting quarterback in its upcoming game against Clemson.
After starting QB Grayson McCall left the Wolfpack’s last game with an injury, true freshman CJ Bailey entered in his absence. Then, on Monday, NC State’s head coach Dave Doeren announced that Bailey will start NC State’s next game, against Clemson. According to numerous reports, Doeren included on Monday that McCall is “day-to-day.”
“CJ is going to run the show until Grayson is healthy,” Doeren said in a weekly press appearance. “I’m excited to see what CJ can do. And whoever that quarterback is wearing the red and white, the fans need to have his back. They need to be supportive. They need to pray for those kind of things when they happen, and that’s what family does.”
Bailey was a four-star recruit out of Chaminade-Madonna Prep in Florida. He was the No. 432 prospect in America according to the 247 Sports Composite Rankings. Bailey was the No. 29 quarterback in his class, according to those same rankings, and was the No. 57 player in Florida. He held offers from Indiana, Louisville, Georgia Tech, and others prior to choosing the Wolfpack.
NC State took down Louisiana Tech last week behind Bailey and the rest of the team. Bailey went 13 for 20 passing the ball, throwing for 156 yards and also rushing for a touchdown.
