One of the top targets on Pitt’s recruiting board may be coming off the board soon according to 247 Sports.
Amari Evans, a Pittsburgh native who began his career at Bishop Canevin, recently visited Tennessee. Now, he has received a crystal ball prediction to end up at Tennessee, via Colby Giacubeno of 247 Sports and MADE Hoops.
Evans also recently took an official visit to Xavier and head coach Sean Miller.
Evans, along with Meleek Thomas, began his high-school basketball career in the Steel City. He played for Bishop Canevin, before transferring to Overtime Elite in Atlanta, Georgia years ago to play ball down south. Now, Thomas is there, too, also playing for OTE. Regardless of where they’re playing their final season of prep basketball, both players seem to still be near the very top of Pitt’s wish list for the class of 2025.
Evans cut his list earlier this summer to include the following ten programs: Pitt, Mississippi State, Georgetown, TCU, Texas A&M, Ole Miss, Villanova, Tennessee, Illinois, and Xavier. On3’s Joe Tipton reported that Evans scheduled four official visits: Tennessee, Ole Miss, TCU, and Xavier.
The four-star prospect is ranked as the No. 96 player in the class of 2025 according to 247 Sports’ class rankings.
Although Evans may be heading elsewhere, it does not appear as though Pitt is in any sort of trouble in the recruiting world. The Panthers recently earned a verbal commitment from four-star prospect Omari Witherspoon out of Saint John’s College High School in Washington D.C., and now, the Panthers are in a recruiting battle with North Carolina and others to land Derek Dixon, another top target of theirs.
