Pitt target Derek Dixon will announce his commitment on Sept. 27 — his birthday — at 3 p.m. est. on 247 Sports’ YouTube channel.
Now, as we await his announcement, predictions have started to roll in from insiders from 247 Sports and Rivals. 247 Sports’ Colby Giacubeno placed a crystal ball prediction for Dixon to land at North Carolina, with a confidence level of six out of ten. In addition, Rivals’ KevinHeel placed a prediction for Dixon to choose North Carolina, and Houston Wilson changed his initial selection, which was Pitt, and now predicts that Dixon will commit to North Carolina.
Adam Finkelstein announced that Dixon will be deciding between Pitt, North Carolina, Vanderbilt, and Virginia.
Dixon, a four star out of Gonzaga Prep in Washington D.C., has developed a strong relationship with Pitt head coach Jeff Capel, associate head coach Milan Brown, and the rest of the staff over more than two years since they began recruiting him.
The Pitt staff is working hard to land Dixon, as showcased by Capel and Brown’s trip to D.C. to see him two weeks ago on the same day that he cancelled his visit to Arizona.
Ranked as the No. 51 player in the nation by 247 Sports, Dixon, if he were to commit to Pitt, would become the highest-ranked player to commit to Capel since he took over the Pitt head coaching position. The title of Capel’s highest-ranked commitment is currently owned by Dior Johnson, who finished No. 53 overall in 247 Sports’ class-of-2022 rankings. Johnson never appeared in a game for Pitt after being suspended in his freshman season. He spent last year at Clarendon College (JUCO), and is now at UCF playing in the Big 12.
Dixon has visited Pitt three times — twice for unofficial visits and once for an official.
On to Plan B…
North Carolina
My prediction: Whomever gave him the most $$$!
They might as well just list the NIL offers like in free agency then we would know. Of course, that would not make good TV ratings for ESPN when they air the announcement.
Schools like North Carolina when I go after these kids it’s because they lost somebody that’s ranked higher. They don’t recruit they don’t need to recruit the recruits come to them.
that’s true, but was he looking for a stronger university a blue blood? Yes he was or he would’ve already went to Pitt just like the kid from Pittsburgh.
He’s never gonna get players like that. I don’t know why he even waste his time… if he was gonna go to Pitt , he would’ve already committed. He waited till he got better offers. It’s a fact and it happens over and over again. When is he gonna learn same thing goes for the Pittsburgh kid?
He has gotten several players like that.
