Where Does Pitt Go Next with Derek Dixon Off to North Carolina?

Published

on

If you haven't been keeping track of the day-to-day news, catch up to speed with some updates on Pitt basketball's recruiting efforts.

On Friday, Derek Dixon, a top Pitt target for years, committed to North Carolina over Pitt, Virginia, and Vanderbilt.

The Panthers had been on Dixon for over two years, and seemed to be the favorites to land Dixon along with the Tar Heels. However, Hubert Davis’ staff came away with the recruiting battle victory.

So, where does Pitt turn to next?

First of all, the Panthers already have a commitment in the 2025 class. It’s not time to panic by any means. Omari Witherspoon, ranked just outside the top-100, is a legitimate four-star prospect out of D.C. and appears to be right up Pitt’s alley in terms of his skill set.

But outside of Witherspoon, the Panthers are still involved with several other recruits in the class of 2025.

Meleek Thomas, Amari Evans, Isaiah Denis, Davion Hannah, and Nikola Bundalo all still have Pitt in top-school lists at the moment.

MELEEK THOMAS – TOP SEVEN

Thomas cut his list to the following schools: UConn, Kansas, Alabama, Pitt, Auburn, Kansas State, and Arkansas. The Pittsburgh native and five-star prospect now plays for Overtime Elite.

AMARI EVANS – TOP THREE

Evans, the Pittsburgh native, is considering Pitt, Tennessee, and Xavier.

2025 four-star guard prospect Amari Evans took an official visit to Tennessee this past weekend. He is a top Pittsburgh target, too.

ISAIAH DENIS – TOP TEN

Denis included the Panthers in his top-ten schools’ list, along with the following teams: North Carolina, Kansas, Ohio State, Miami, Mississippi State, Wake Forest, Tennessee, Cincinnati, and Michigan. Denis took an official visit to Pitt on Aug. 30. He will commit to a program on Nov. 2.

NIKOLA BUNDALO – TOP EIGHT

The 6-foot-10 Bundalo announced that his top list included the following schools: Pitt, Kentucky, North Carolina, UConn, Ohio State, Michigan State, Xavier, and Texas.

DAVION HANNAH – TOP NINE

Pitt, Alabama, Ohio State, Michigan State, Wisconsin, Louisville, NC State, Cincinnati and Xavier are in the mix with Hannah, a 6-foot-6 shooting guard/wing prospect out of Wisconsin. He will take an official visit to Pitt on Oct. 19.

Pay Thomas the money to keep him in Pittsburgh!
It’s all about the money, and anyone who says otherwise is lying. Every young person goes for the money when looking for a job, so these athletes are no different. And I don’t blame them!
H2P!!!

Not all about the money. Of course it plays a factor but the highest bidder does not always win. Lost a battle to a quality program. It happens. Pitt will be OK. Honeslty any kid that wants to play for Hubert Davis…I really dont want him at Pitt.

So I guess the fact that Pitt offered years doesn’t mean shit? And this damn NIL has screwed college sports up, not to mention the portal. There needs to be stricter regulations on both!

Every one of these sayings hasn’t been used regularly in 10-15 years… at least. I’d suggest that you grow up but I’m guessing you’re actually not that young in the first place.

Coaches move freely. ADs move freely. Everyone in college does. Why should athletes be any different? Let them go where they feel the best situation is for them. “Volunteers not hostages.” Again…Pitt will be OK.
