The two-time defending national champions have earned a commitment from a five-star prospect.
On Monday, five-star guard Darius Adams out of La Lumiere in La Porte, Indiana, committed to the UConn Huskies and head coach Dan Hurley. UConn is notably one of the top schools going after five-star guard Meleek Thomas, along with Pitt, Arkansas, Alabama, and others.
Adams is ranked as the No. 19 player in the class of 2025 by the 247 Sports Composite Rankings. He is the No. 4 shooting guard in the nation.
UConn can still land Thomas as well, which would create one of the top incoming freshman duos in college basketball next year in Storrs.
Thomas, a 6-foot-4 guard, is ranked as the No. 7 player in the country for the class of 2025, per 247 Sports’ Composite Rankings. He is ranked a few spots ahead of Adams in the shooting guard rankings, at No. 1 overall. Thomas began his high-school career at Lincoln Park in the WPIAL before making the decision to transfer down to Atlanta to join Overtime Elite for his final season before college ball.
Thomas is scheduled to visit Alabama as well as Arkansas this fall. He is also considering Pitt, UConn, Arkansas, and others in his recruitment. Thomas has already taken official visits to both Pitt and UConn.
The highly-touted guard won back-to-back WPIAL and PIAA titles last high-school season as a sophomore and junior at Lincoln Park, averaging 22.7 points and 10.2 rebounds per game. He has been a significant Pitt target since early in his high school career and has been to numerous games over the past few seasons alongside former teammate and current Pitt guard Brandin Cummings.
Imagine if Pitt had landed Hurley instead of settling for mediocrity
