PITTSBURGH — Pitt assistant coach and secondary coach Cory Sanders, along with offensive line coach Jeremy Darveau met with the media on Tuesday to discuss their respective units through four weeks.
Sanders discussed how the secondary has come up and played against the run so far this season and how that will be an area of importance against North Carolina running back Omarion Hampton.
Safety Cruce Brookins was a topic of discussion for Sanders on his play so far as a redshirt freshman. Brookins saw more playing time against Youngstown State and will see increased time in the first half in Chapel Hill, N.C. after PJ O’Brien was ejected for targeting against the Penguins.
Darveau spoke on several individuals on his offensive line and how they have competed through the first four games. A position of note has been left guard with Ryan Jacoby bouncing in and out with an injury, however, he is fully cleared for game action. Sixth-year senior Jason Collier has filled in nicely in that role, Darveau says.
Lyndon Cooper, BJ Williams and Ryan Baer were all discussed about their play on the offensive line and the speed they have to get oout in front and block.
