One of the top young prospects in WPIAL basketball was ruled ineligible by the league earlier this week.
Kieshaun Demus, a class-of-2027 prospect out of Imani Christian, was ruled ineligible for his sophomore season of basketball by the WPIAL at a recent hearing.
Demus began his career at North Hills before transferring to Imani Christian. The hearing arose, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, “because North Hills did not sign off on Demus’ transfer, contending that athletic intent and/or recruiting was involved.”
According to that report by the Post-Gazette, “…On Demus’ transfer paperwork, North Hills checked a box that reads, ‘I am aware of other facts or circumstances which would lead me to believe that individuals affiliated with the school to which the student transferred engaged in recruiting the student for the purpose of participating in athletics.'”
Demus received his first Division One basketball offer from Pepperdine weeks ago.
Chris Harlan of TribLive.com reported that two other WPIAL athletes were ruled ineligible this week as well.
“Demus was one of three transfers ruled ineligible Monday, joining Baldwin sophomore Dre’on Fuller and Avonworth freshman Jackson May,” Harlan said. “Fuller transferred from McKeesport and May came from North Hills. Both play football. Seltzer said the WPIAL board found their transfers also were motivated by athletics.

Shame on North Hills. Let the young man play. They are just jealous their schools name isn’t going to be on his file.
