Papa Amadou Kante missed his entire freshman season due to a knee injury.
Now, the former four-star big man is back in action after recently being cleared for all contact. On Thursday, Pitt shared videos of Kante in practice recently, taking the ball inside and finishing over his teammates Guillermo Diaz Graham and Cam Corhen, among others.
Check out the video below.
Kante was fully cleared on Sept. 23.
“I’m ready to go right now,” Amadou Kante said. “I’m cleared to go live and I appreciate everyone who has helped me through this journey. I can’t wait to see you all in Pitt. Hail to Pitt.”
Papa Amadou Kante Shares Injury Update on First Day of Practice
Kante, a 6-foot-10, four-star redshirt freshman big man, was one of the best prospects that Capel has brought into Pitt at the time of his pledge. The Senegal native moved to the United States in 2019, and quickly burst onto the recruiting scene with a strong high-school career at South Kent School (CT).
The Panthers’ front court also includes Corhen (Florida State transfer) as well as Diaz Graham and Amdy Ndiaye, a freshman who is also from Senegal.
Pitt is heading into year seven of the Capel era, and the program has been trending in the right direction the past two seasons after a bumpy first four years in his tenure. Capel has earned 46 wins over the past two seasons, just shy of the 51 total wins he had in his first four seasons at the helm. The Panthers brought in Corhen as well as guard Damian Dunn through the transfer portal, while also bringing in freshmen Ndiaye, Brandin “Beebah” Cummings, and Amsal Delalic, a 6-foot-9 guard out of Bosnia and Herzegovina who is currently recovering from a hand injury.
