Desmond Reid sat out the non-conference finale against Youngstown State, so he could rest up and enter conference play 100% healthy. He’s certainly looked healthy against North Carolina.
Eli Holstein dropped back in the pocket on 1st-and-10 early in the second quarter, located Reid racing out of the backfield and hit him with a pass in stride. Reid did the rest, streaking past a handful of UNC defenders for a 72-yard gain.
Pitt capitalized on the explosive gain two plays later, a 7-yard touchdown connection between Holstein and Censere Lee.
Reid has racked up six carries for 26 yards and three receptions for 90 yards through a quarter and a half against UNC, almost single-handedly fueling the first touchdown drive against the Tar Heels.
It’s become expected that Reid will take over football games on the ground and through the air, and through the early going against UNC, it’s no different.
Pitt and UNC are tied at 10 as the second quarter enters the later stages.
Reid looks terrific as always. The LBs on the other hand just can’t hold up against the run I’d be ok with undersized LBs if they covered well which is not the case. They need to blitz these guys they aren’t stopping much in these zones coverages or in man which they should be ok I mean 3 out of 4 of our main LBs are the size of safety’s. The soft front seven is going to cost us if not today but against a better opponent.
