PITTSBURGH — It was only a matter of time before Desmond Reid took over against Cal.
Pitt faced a 4th-and-1 from its own 28 to open the second quarter, and Eli Holstein handed the ball off to Reid and watched him race 72 yards to the end zone. He wasn’t going to be caught as he galloped to the end zone.
The 72-yard touchdown was the first 70-yard rushing touchdown by a Pitt running back since Israel Abanikanda broke off an 80-yard touchdown against Virginia Tech in 2022.
Reid has carried the ball six times for 92 yards and a touchdown and added a 19-yard reception on another fourth down play.
It’s the continuation of an incredibly strong season for Reid, who has been one of the best running backs and wide receivers in college football, simultaneously, this season.
Pitt leads 13-6 early in the second quarter, and Reid will certainly be featured as the Panthers look to continue a winning streak against the Golden Bears.
