WPIAL Football Commit Lands Offer from Reigning National Champion

Bradley Gompers

The recruitment of Bradley Gompers, one of the top WPIAL football recruits, continues to stay hot as the reigning national champion extended an offer to the Duke commit.

Gompers — a 6-foot-5, 215-pound outside linebacker from Pittsburgh Central Catholic — received an offer on Tuesday from linebacker coach Brian Luc Jean-Mary and the Michigan Wolverines. Gompers also picked up an offer from the Virginia Cavaliers on Tuesday.

With a phenomenal senior campaign to date, Gompers has reeled in a list of offers while holding a verbal pledge to the Duke Blue Devils. Since the start of the season, Penn State, Ole Miss, N.C. State and Vanderbilt reached out with offers.

In June, Gompers selected the Blue Devils over a top seven that included Pitt, West Virginia, Michigan State, Maryland, Northwestern and Rutgers.

Gompers holds a four-star rating from 247Sports and is ranked as the 26th-best linebacker in the 2025 class, as well as the No. 7 ranked prospect in the state of Pennsylvania.

It will be interesting to see if Gompers sticks with head coach Manny Diaz — who stopped in to see his prized recruit this past Friday — and the Blue Devils as other top schools apply pressure for Gompers, including top area recruiter Terry Smith from the Penn State Nittany Lions.

This season, Gompers has stood out as one of the best all-around players. Gompers is second on Central Catholic with 45 total tackles, along with six tackles for loss.

At tight end/receiver, Bradley Gompers has recorded 14 receptions for 412 yards and 5 touchdowns for 6-2 — 4-0 in Class 6A — Vikings team that is looking to win its first WPIAL title since 2020.
