Pitt Fans Start Donation Campaign Against Syracuse

It seems appropriate that a renewed push for donations has started since new Director of Athletics Allen Greene was hired last week.

Greene was introduced Wednesday at the Petersen Events Center, and one of the things he made clear is that NIL (and revenue generation) will be a major part of his job responsibility in Pittsburgh. But he isn’t ever going to directly ask for money.

“I don’t ask for money, never have,” Greene said. “I explain the vision, express the vision and let people enjoy the journey along with that vision.”

It certainly doesn’t seem like he will have to ask for money when it comes to the Syracuse game.

Popular podcast, the Loyal Sons, announced a pledge of five dollars for every point the Panthers score against Syracuse Thursday night. And a whole lot of Pitt fans announced their pledges in response.

It’s more important than ever to have a healthy, active NIL collective, like Alliance 412, and the renewed push for donations in the midst of the best start to a season since 1982 could go a long way.

Greene was brought in specifically to bring the necessary changes to the Panthers athletic department going forward.

Sell some Panthers playing cards. Make some 2024 Pitt football cards and sell them by the pack. The 2024 roster. I’m sure some people would by them and kids would like them. Would make a nice collector’s item for Pitt fans. That’s my amateur marketing contribution for today.

Or open up a creamery like Penn State has and let a percentage of sales go directly to supporting Pitt athletic programs. Tossing stuff at the wall to see what sticks.

Forget a creamery. Open a beer distributor!

I have to wonder how much UPMC puts back into the university. They should be a major donor to the university since they are apart of it. Why don’t they put their name on any Pitt projects? RMU’s basketball stadium has the UPMC name on it. They could sponsor a good bit of NIL.
