WATCH: Randy Bates, Jacob Bronowski Talk Win Over Syracuse, SMU

PITTSBURGH — Pitt defensive coordinator Randy Bates, along with special teams coordinator/tight ends coach Jacob Bronowksi spoke with the media Tuesday afternoon on the South Side regarding the Panthers’ 41-13 win over Syracuse on Thursday and its upcoming matchup with SMU.

Bates oversees a defense that recorded five interceptions and three returned for touchdowns against the Orange. He spoke on the dominance of Pitt’s defense and the coverage against quarterback Kyle McCord.

He also touched on SMU quarterback Kevin Jennings, what challenges the Mustangs bring and the progression of some Pitt players, including Sean FitzSimmons, Ryland Gandy and Rashad Battle.

Bronowski offered his thoughts on kicker Ben Sauls and his impressive run this season, along with the improvement of punter Caleb Junko.

He further elaborated on the play of Gavin Bartholomew and the crowbars he bought to represent prying open the opposing cornerbacks.
