There isn’t a single person who knows what the college football landscape will look like in the 2030 season, but Pitt has added a non-conference opponent nonetheless.
Brett McMurphy of Action Network reported that Pitt will play Toledo as part of its non-conference schedule in 2030, at an undetermined time and date. The only previously scheduled non-con game is West Virginia on Sept. 7.
Pitt has played Toledo three times, but the series has been dormant since the 2006 season.
Pitt won the inaugural matchup in 2002, a 37-19 victory at what was then Heinz Field, but the Rockets returned the favor with a 35-31 win of their own the following season. Pitt won, 45-3, in the last matchup.
Toledo is in the midst of a 6-3 (3-2 MAC) season, the ninth season with head coach Jason Candle at the helm. He’s continued a run of success following former head coach Matt Campbell (who left for Iowa State) in 2016. Candle is 71-38 (46-21 MAC) during his time at Toledo.
Pitt has room for an additional two non-conference games in 2030. It’s likely that the Panthers will add another Power Four program and an FCS program to the slate.
