PITTSBURGH — Pitt secondary/cornerbacks coach Archie Collins, tight end Jake Overman, safety Javon McIntyre and defensive end Jimmy Scott all took to the podium Wednesday afternoon on the South Side to talk about the team’s performance at SMU and how the 18th-ranked team in the College Football Playoff has responded in practice.

Collins discussed the secondary’s effort against SMU, along with the missed tackles. He noted that cornerback Rashad Battle, who played two snaps and missed an early third-down tackle, was limited as a precautionary after entering the game already banged up.

Overman, a redshirt senior, spoke on how the team has handled practice this week in preparation for Virginia. He also touched on his performance against SMU in which he caught a season-high four passes for 48 yards. Along with that, he talked about quarterback Eli Holstein and how the offense can get back on track.

McIntyre, a redshirt junior, echoed a lot of the similar sentiment that Overman did regarding the team’s response in practice this week and how they are handling adversity. He also talked about how the safety group has grown, including safety Cruce Brookins.

Scott, a redshirt sophomore, discussed the defenses lapses at SMU, including tackling and allowing explosive plays. He also addressed the mindset from the team at practice this week.

I’d like to hear from Battle and Thompson. They should have walked home from Dallas
