Bub Carrington is quickly making a name for himself in the NBA, just six games into his career.
After a recent matchup against the Golden State Warriors in which Carrington dropped 16 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists, Warriors star Draymond Green praised Carrington and his fellow rookie teammates in the postgame press conference.
“We played the Wizards last night, and I spent the whole game getting bullied,” Green said on his podcast. “I was getting bullied the whole game. First off, the two young fellas, Bub and Kyshawn George, they started talking to me. I’m literally sitting there asking them, like, ‘Yo, y’all talk?’ They’re like, ‘yeah! That’s what we on.’ I said ‘Oh, cool, we could talk then alright, let’s go. I was excited as hell, so we talked… I was getting bullied.”
Carrington is averaging the second-most points per game out of all rookies, at 10.3 PPG (second only to Edey’s 11.1). Carrington is shooting 44% from the field and 35% from three-point range, along with 93% from the free-throw line. He is also averaging 4.3 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game. His assist average leads all rookies as well as his minutes per game (29.2).
Carrington, the No. 14 overall pick in this past year’s NBA Draft by the Washington Wizards, opened at +3000 to win the NBA’s prestigious Rookie of the Year award. Now, his odds have skyrocketed due to his strong early performance in his career. He is now at +600 to win the award, the third-best odds.
Carrington started 33 games for Pitt as a rookie, averaging 13.8 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per game. The Baltimore, Maryland native shot 41% from the field and 32% from three-point range in his freshman campaign, and alongside Jaland Lowe and Ishmael Leggett, starred for the Panthers in the back court.
Carrington went No. 14 overall in the most recent NBA Draft, making his way from the Portland Trail Blazers to the Washington Wizards via trade. Carrington was the first player drafted in the first round from a Jeff-Capel-led Pitt team.
