Pitt has taken care of business in each of its first two games of the season.
On Friday night, Pitt took down Murray State by 15 points after beating Radford by 40 earlier in the week. The 15-point win for Pitt came on the backs of strong performances from Jaland Lowe, Ishmael Leggett, Damian Dunn, and Cam Corhen, among others. Jeff Capel also spoke about the important of Zack Austin and Beebah Cummings’ role in the win, too.
Now, with the night’s results updated, Ken Pomeroy’s analytics rankings have updated, and seem to really like Pitt’s performance against Murray State.
After the win, the Panthers jumped up to No. 25 overall in KenPom’s rankings.
This is a significant jump, as the Panthers were at No. 32 after the win over Radford, and began the season at No. 37 overall, just one week ago.
Damian Dunn, Pitt Guards Shine in Tough Win Over Murray State, 83-68
Dunn finished with 19 points on 6-for-11 shooting, while Lowe added 20 on 6-for-15 shooting. Leggett chimed in with 18 points of his own, while Corhen had a double-double, scoring 13, and grabbing ten rebounds.
Pitt wing Amsal Delalic was in uniform for the game for the first time of his collegiate career, but did not play.
As a team, Pitt shot 51% from the field and 42% from three-point range. Pitt out-rebounded Murray State 36-30 in the win.
With the win, Pitt moved to 2-0 on the season. The Panthers will now take on Gardner-Webb on Monday, Nov. 11 at the Petersen Events Center. That game will tip off at 7 p.m.
Gardner-Webb is ranked No. 237 in Kenpom’s rankings, so expect a hefty spread favoring the Panthers.
This team looks very capable of competing with the elite of the ACC. We will be even better with Amsal back.
