PITTSBURGH — Pitt football’s top wide receiver, Konata Mumpfield, left Saturday’s ACC game against Virginia with an apparent injury.

Early in the third quarter, quarterback Eli Holstein dialed up a pass for Mumpfield over the middle. As the receiver dove to catch the ball, he dropped it and simultaneously hit his head hard off the ground.

The 6-foot-1, 185-pound receiver remained on the ground for a few minutes before getting slowly walking off the field with the medical staff closely alongside. He would then go into the medical tent on the sideline for further evaluation.

He then proceeded to go to the locker room with Holstein, who was hit hard on the following drive. Virginia’s Trey McDonald was ejected for the hit.

On the evening, Mumpfield recorded two receptions for 19 yards, including a long of 12 yards.

Last week, Mumpfield caught six passes for 68 yards against SMU. Following the loss, Mumpfield, a senior captain, helped lead a players-only meeting looking to regroup the team afters its first loss.

Mumpfield is a key part of the Panthers offense, leading all receivers with 33 receptions for 541 yards and three total touchdowns. He has two 100-yard receiving performances so far this season.

In three years with the Panthers since transferring from Akron, he has compiled 1,668 yards and nine touchdowns on 135 receptions.
