ACC Issues Non-Answer on Replayed Fourth Down Play

College football, ACC.

PITTSBURGH — A request was put in for the ACC to explain the controversial call that resulted in a replayed fourth down following a Pitt run stuff on fourth-and-1 that resulted in a turnover on downs Saturday night.

The ACC responded with:

“Prior to completion of the substitution process, the ball was improperly snapped before the officials were in position to officiate. There is no foul, the play clock is set to 25 seconds and the clock starts on the ready-for-play signal.”

So, the ACC restated what happened and didn’t answer any questions. And with the answer, it raises the question of why Virginia wasn’t called for an illegal snap infraction.

Pitt appeared to have stuffed Virginia backup quarterback Grady Brosterhous on the aforementioned short of the sticks. The Pitt defense celebrated, thinking they got the ball back to the offense with a chance to go down the field and take the lead.

Until the officials stepped in and said the play had to be replayed since “the officials weren’t in position.” Virginia got a second chance and converted, moving the chains.

Virginia burned more time off the clock, connected on a 32-yard field goal with 2:06 left in the game and ultimately won the game.

Pat Narduzzi wasn’t given an explanation by the ACC officiating crew during the game either.

“To be honest, I have no idea,” Narduzzi said Saturday night after the game. “It’s a great question. I’m sure (the ACC) will answer that for us on Monday or Tuesday. But it’s our job to get lined up and get in position. And it’s their job to get lined up and get in position as well. We had a stop on fourth-and-1. And no explanation.”

ACC refs continue to be bush league and incompetent. There is ZERO accountability.

Clown show all around.

There’s no excuse for what that joke of a ref crew did last night. They totally blew a critical situation late in the 4th quarter of a very consequential game for Pitt. We’ll never know now whether or not Pitt could have driven down the field with that momentum and won that game to become an 8-1 team because of those jokers that didn’t do their jobs properly. They should be suspended.

Pitt wins the ACC in 2021, they get rid of the Coastal Division. Lol. Pitt winning the ACC doesn’t meet the agenda of league officials. Go back and watch every conference game since Pitt started in the ACC. You’ll see it blatantly in front of your eyes.

Agreed. I will take great pleasure in the ACCs demise; it’s inevitable.

I was just thinking that perhaps we should have went to the Big 12 conference instead like WVU because they haven’t gotten screwed over with calls in that conference like we have in the ACC. 👍

How can the ACC charge an exit fee with this and other performances by the referees and its administration?

Been in football for almost 60 years, I have never seen that call.
