TURTLE CREEK, Pa. — Bethel park running back JaVaughn Moore continued his breakout senior season as he propelled the No. 5 Black Hawks to a 49-22 win over No. 4 Woodland Hills in Friday night’s quarterfinals round. In the contest, Moore carried the ball 37 times for a career-high 280 rushing yards. In total, he finished with 361 all-purpose yards and four touchdowns, three on the ground and one through the air.
The big-time performance against the Wolverines helped him eclipse the 2,000-yard rushing mark for the season. Additionally, this came a week after he scored four touchdowns in Bethel Park’s opening round win against Greater Latrobe.
“I just want to say thanks to my [offensive] line,” Moore told Pittsburgh Sports Now following the game. “My line, we just worked Monday through Thursday, that is where we are winning. We come out on the field and show what we did in practice. I can’t do it without my line and I am always going to say that.”
Moore’s historic night helped the Black Hawks take down a banged up Wolverines squad. Though, in the Wolverines storied history, they have never lost at home in the playoffs until Friday. On top of that, it marked the first time that the Black Hawks have ever came out victorious against the Wolverines in a playoff game.
“This is real big for us,” Moore said. “It was big [because] we never beat Woodland Hills in the playoffs, ever, so it means a lot to us.”
The win against the Wolverines continues the Black Hawks season and their pursuit of their second ever WPIAL title. Their lone championship win happened in 2008.
Moore has saw his recruiting trail pick up as of late but he is still motivated to be contacted by more schools as he only has one offer. That lone offer is from Westminster, where he has built a solid connection with the program.
“Westminster is cool, I got to get up there,” Moore said. “I have been looking at some other schools but Westminster is definitely an option.”
While JaVaughn Moore and the rest of the Black Hawks continue to reach new heights, they are just one game away from a ticket to play in the Class-5A Championship at Acrisure Stadium. They will travel to take on the classification’s top-seeded team in Pine-Richland next Friday night for a ticket to that exclusive championship game.
you would think the kid would have more than one offer after a year at this level.
