For anyone who follows Pitt football recruiting closely, Josiah Oxendine is a name that should be familiar.
Oxendine is a 2026 quarterback from North Carolina and he’s no stranger to the city of Pittsburgh. Whether it be for spring practices or unofficial GameDay visits, Oxendine has made numerous trips to Pittsburgh and that will continue.

This weekend, Oxendine will be at Acrisure Stadium for Pitt’s important matchup against No. 20 Clemson.
The relationship between the two sides began during Oxendine’s freshman season when he received an offer from then-Pitt offensive coordinator Frank Cignetti Jr., which became his first Power Four offer. Since then, he’s added offers from Tennessee, Akron, Appalachian State, Marshall and Georgia State.
Despite the change in members of the coaching staff, Pitt’s contact with Oxendine has kept up as he attended their game against Youngstown State and has received regular mail from members of the coaching staff.
Over the next few days, PSN will let you know of the recruits who plan on attending on Saturday. We anticipate it being a mix of current 2025 Pitt commitments, 2026 recruits with offers but also players that could be receiving an offer from Pitt soon.
Next up is Oxendine.
“Pitt first offered me after my 8th Grade season,” Oxendine told PSN. “Coach Duzzi and his staff from that time until now have been a part of my process and recruiting. The first Pitt coach to evaluate me in person was down in Georgia. I was invited to the Elite D1 Camp THE SHOW and I got a message from Kirby Smart’s staff (Todd Monken and Buster Faulkner) wanting me to come throw for them at their camp. Once I got there and started throwing, I was approached by someone from Coach Duzzi’s staff. I had an excellent camp and from there, I have built many relationships with Pitt’s coaches.

“Of course, with the change in offensive coordinator to Coach Kade Bell that has become a priority relationship for me. Coach Bell first texted me in the summer and I have messaged him several times in his first season to let him know how impressive his offense has been this season. It was finally great to get a chance to meet him early this season at the Homecoming game.”
With the drastic change in Pitt’s offensive philosophy from Cignetti to Bell, Oxendine has made sure to watch Pitt as much as he can on television and being there to personally watch the Youngstown State game was beneficial.
“I watch a lot of Pitt’s games and Coach Bell’s offense is definitely a quarterback’s offense,” said Oxendine. “Eli has been the benefactor of that in multiple games this season. Coach Bell’s system has striking similarities to what I have been developed to do.”
With such a familiarity with Pitt and him heading into his senior season, PSN wanted to get any timeline that Oxendine might have as far as making his college decision.
“My recruitment is open. However, Pitt was the first to offer me and Coach Duzzi has remained a stronghold within my process. The culture in Pittsburgh is totally different. It is truly a football town, and I believe in the same principles they are teaching. Hail to Pitt!”
Oxendine is just one of many quarterbacks that Pitt is recruiting and evaluating for the Class of 2026. Other names include: Legend Bey, DJ Bordeaux, Travis Burgess, Gavin Sidwar, Briggs Cherry and Semaj Beals.
Never good sign when all the in state power 4 schools passed on him. No wonder we have to rely on transfer QBs yr after yr.
