It might be a bold claim, but there’s a legitimate case to be made that Pitt has reached record levels of success this fall.
Volleyball and men’s soccer have been ranked No. 1 in the country this fall, the first time two Pitt programs have been ranked No. 1 simultaneously, and football, men’s and women’s soccer and now men’s basketball have been good, too.
It’s early, and there’s only been one championship so far (a men’s soccer regular season title), but the success has been undeniable. And that success has a chance to continue this weekend in Pittsburgh.
Pitt football, volleyball and men’s basketball will all be in action in town this weekend.
For reference:
Pitt football — 7-2
Pitt men’s basketball — 3-0
Pitt volleyball — 23-1
No. 1 Pitt volleyball will play twice this weekend, including a sold-out match against No. 22 Florida State at the Fitzgerald Field House on Friday night. The Panthers will also host a Miami squad receiving votes in the latest AVCA Poll on Sunday.
The match on Friday is scheduled for 5 p.m., and the match on Sunday is scheduled for 1 p.m.
Oakland will be very busy on Friday as men’s basketball is playing.
The Backyard Brawl is set for an 8 p.m. tip-off at the Petersen Events Center, easily the biggest game of the young season for the Panthers.
And of course, the Panthers host No. 20 Clemson at Acrisure Stadium — with a chance to bounce back from two bad losses with a major upset. It may not be in Oakland but campus will certainly be buzzing.
