Clemson is expected to be without its leading tackler against Pitt this afternoon.
Clemson linebacker Wade Woodaz — a 6-foot-3, 235-pound junior from Tampa, Fla. — isn’t expected to play, the team announced via Chapel Fowler of The State Newspaper.
Woodaz has been an impactful member of a Clemson defense that is allowing 23.1 points and 336.7 yards per game. He’s racked up 61 tackles (34 solo), seven tackles for loss, two sacks, an interception, three forced fumbles and three pass breakups.
Woodaz has taken a team-high 494 defensive snaps this season, recording 17 pressures, 11 hurries, four quarterback hits and 21 run stops. He’s lined up primarily in the box, but he’s capable of dropping back as a safety, too.
It’s a big loss for Clemson, but the Tigers are well-equipped to promote from within the linebacking corps. Veteran Barrett Carter and true freshman Sammy Brown will be relied upon more heavily against the Panthers.
Pitt will look to exploit the loss with Nate Yarnell, who is making his first start of the season in place of the injured Eli Holstein.
Pitts getting destroyed one way or another they could play all their back up’s we’d still lose. Fire Narduzzi
