Pitt Injuries: Two Season-Ending and One ‘Too Early’ to Tell

PITTSBURGH — A couple of Pitt players have played their last snaps of the season, and in Daniel Carter’s case, his career. But it’s too early to tell at quarterback next week.

Pat Narduzzi announced Saturday after the loss to No. 20 Clemson that Carter and Censere Lee, who were both carted off the field against Clemson, are out for the season.

“Yeah, both of them will be out for the year,” Narduzzi said after the loss. “Daniel had what looked like probably a broken — I’m not a doctor but it was not pretty looking sight out there. You knew immediately that he had an issue there, and then C.J. Lee, he’ll be out, as well, with it looked like — I’m no doctor, but a patella tendon.”

Carter went down in the first half following a 12-year run, picking up a first down before being dragged down by a Clemson defender. He remained down for some time before he was placed on the cart with a boot on his ankle.

It’s a tough break for Carter, who has now played his last snaps as a Pitt Panther following six seasons with the program. He finishes the season with 22 carries for 208 yards and four touchdowns, with three receptions for 22 yards and another touchdown.

Lee went down in the second half, falling hard after drawing a defensive pass interference penalty on Clemson Avieon Terrell. Lee was attended to along the sideline before being placed on the cart with his leg in an air cast.

Lee finishes his first season with the Panthers with 19 receptions for 254 yards and three touchdowns.

Eli Holstein wasn’t hurt in the game, but he didn’t play despite dressing and warming up before the game. His injury hasn’t been specified, but he was held out because of it. And Narduzzi said it’s “way too early” to determine whether he’ll be back next week.

“We’ll see how Eli is feeling, and that’s a coach’s decision,” Narduzzi said. “We’ve got a lot of confidence in Eli. Eli has played well all year, as well.

“Again, I’ve told you all year Nate Yarnell is a good football player, and you guys saw it out there today, and we’ll see when the grading gets done and see how everybody feels.”

Nate Yarnell filled in for Holstein against Clemson, completing 34-of-54 pass attempts for 350 yards with a touchdown and an interception — sacked eight times and hit 10 more.

Davis Jr is a complete bust. He was boarderline 5 star recruit out of high school. He wasn’t good enough at LSU and he’s still not good enough here. He’s a D2 level runningback.

Davis should go back to being a Safety. His natural position where he can shine.

Daniel Carter averaging 9+ yds a carry during the season and relegated to only 22 carries. He moved defenders onto their asses when he ran the ball. I call BS on Cade Bell and CEO Narduzzi….your both dumbasses!

Eli has a concussion he’s had two in last three games. Thank the offensive line. They practically got Yarnell hurt yesterday. The entire oline needs overhauled they’re getting guys hurt. I don’t even know who the coach is at the position probably a good idea to get rid of that bum too.

The replacement right tackle was absolutely dominated versus the Clemson DE. Unbelievable that Pitt didn’t try a different lineman, or put an extra TE blocker in for a double-team. Yarnell was getting pretty beat-up. He performed really well under dire circumstances. Showed more poise than Holstein has (although this should change as Holstein gains experience/matures).
